Pioneer Sports Cards

We picked up this wonderful Batman Forever Display with autographs, mini-poster and Batman mask from Pioneer Sports Card in Cooperstown, NY. Kudos to the owner Mark Wolpert for an amazing job shipping this beautiful collectible. Loved the store and service. I recommend this shop if you are in the area.

One of many places to get your card fix - had an eclectic mix of packs available to buy which was very cool. Like most places, prices are at a premium, but there are definitely a few deals to be had and the singles available were really fun to explore. One thing to avoid though - those dang mystery boxes. My son got blinded by the label, and despite my warning, grabbed two of them. At $40 a pop, the mix was pretty brutal. Maybe if they had a pack that wasn't the junkiest from the junk wax era would make them a little more fun. Overall, a great sport though.

This by far is my favorite store in Cooperstown. Mark is super knowledgeable and always has great items in the store. I’ve included just some of the plaques I have purchased over the years and my prized Braves 1995 WS replica ring. My wife and I visit Cooperstown every year and Pioneer is always on the top of our list. No visit is complete without taking time to patiently comb through the great collection of items in the store. Thank you Mark for always making our time in Cooperstown special.

If you are looking for a specific card or player and in need of knowledgeable staff, this is the place to go. I mentioned someone that played 22 MLB games and the staffer found 3 cards for me!. I was more than shocked, surprised and impressed. For the diehard baseball card collectors, this is a must.

Saw a piece there that I loved. Was too big to fly back with me. They shipped it to me instead. Everything went great! Pleasure to deal with.

Full disclosure: this is my father’s store. He opened it over 30 years ago, just before I was born. I was raised in that store. Catfish Hunter held me as an infant in that place. There is no baseball to me without Pioneer Sports Cards. My dad, Mark, has lived and breathed baseball his entire life. It is not a job or a “hustle” for him. Whether it’s a trip to Florida for spring training or the World Baseball Classic (there is no bigger American WBC fan), or just catching a Yankee game at home, you cannot mistake his devotion as anything other than a pure passion and respect for the sport. If you want an authentic Cooperstown experience, this is it. If you could see the love and dedication and enthusiasm that I’ve seen him put into that place my entire life, the labor of love that is Pioneer Sports Cards, you wouldn’t pass through town without stopping in to talk baseball and open a pack of cards with Mark.
